COURSE PRESENTATION
General Practitioners are the primary care provider to populations, directing health promotion and disease prevention, and providing coordinated patient focused care. They are the key for an accurate implementation of the population-based cancer screening programs, in the valuation of signs and symptoms that contribute to the early detection of cancer, and in the correct referral of cancer patients to specialized centres. They should act effectively within multidisciplinary health care teams, including within the hospital environments, participating, and facilitating communication between primary care and hospital physicians.
General Practitioners deal with cancer patients and cancer issues very frequently. Nevertheless, most physicians of this specialty have had little opportunity to learn about cancer care due to the lack of oncology curriculum content in university training and in family medicine certification programs.
This course is an opportunity to have contact with the natural history of different types of cancer, mains treatments modalities and follow-up. The participants will have time to discuss practical clinical cases, to facilitate the application in daily practice.
The speakers will be professionals with experience in dealing with the different aspects of cancer.
