AHED’S DISTINCTIVE LAB OF ADVANCED PRACTICES (LAP)

Supporting the drive to offer Hands-on, practical training programs, AHED will put together in its new facilities in Parede one distinctive Laboratory of Advanced Practices that congregates Dry and Wet Resources, an initiative unavailable in Portugal nowadays and rarely seen across Europe.

THE WET LAB

The WET LAB will be the place to develop technical competences of professionals through the use of cadavers, preserved by Nova Medical School according to internationally acknowledge and award-winning techniques . Biomaterials are also being explored as a means to train upon. Programs built for delivery at the Dry Lab are aimed at surgeons, clinicians, nurses and all other relevant health professionals. The space will include and Anatomical Theatre, a cadaver conservation and refrigeration system, and a sterile and cleaning department. Knee, shoulder, spine, and urology are some of the areas that will be explored in the WET LAB.

THE DRY LAB

The DRY LAB will pursuit the development of technical competencies of professionals through the use of advanced medical models or dummies, 3D printed models, high fidelity spaces, and augmented reality. Programs built for delivery at the Dry Lab are too aimed at surgeons, clinicians, nurses and all other relevant health professionals. The space will include a Task Training Lab, an Advanced Training Lab in High Fidelity Spaces, and a Lab for 3D printed models. Paediatrics, guided ultrasound, arrhythmia, laparoscopic and robotic, neurovascular procedures are an example of what the DRY LAB can offer.

Both Labs will be supported by a group of shared resources that include teaching/briefing/debriefing rooms, lockers, and changing rooms.

Future programs will put the synergies delivered by the proximity of the two Labs at work to create unique integrated training courses.
