COURSE PRESENTATION
This course aims to provide up-to-date insight regarding the role of MRI on staging, treatment planning, active surveillance and recurrence of prostate cancer. Before discussing pathological features, a brief discussion on important technical issues will be provided.

The normal zonal anatomy of the prostate and surrounding pelvic organs will be described in several sequences, and the key features of PIRADS v2.1 classification will be emphasized. After discussing those general issues, the faculty will provide a step-by-step guide for detecting suspicious lesions,
according to their specific locations, based on theoretical sessions and hands-on classes. Unusual prostatic tumours will also be shown, as well as benign diseases that may mimic malignancy.In the set of diagnosis, the role of several types of biopsy will be discussed, emphasizing the advantages
of imaging fusion methods. Moreover, ultimate information will be provided regarding the main topics on prostate cancer histology.

Regarding post-treatment recurrence, normal and pathological signs will be reviewed for radical prostatectomy, external beam radiotherapy, brachytherapy, and other less common treatment options. Overall, the faculty aims to highlight the role of a multidisciplinary approach in the management of prostate cancer patients, providing both radiological and urologic viewpoints.

Theoretical sessions, seminars (with discussion between different specialities), case-based sessions, audience polling sessions, and hands-on sessions will be provided.

Main target audience are physicians, both specialists and residents (radiology, urology, oncology, radiation oncology, nuclear medicine), and technicians (radiology, radiation oncology, nuclear medicine).

  1. To recognize the role of MRI in the diagnosis, staging, treatment planning, active surveillance and recurrence of prostate cancer.
  2. To understand the benefit of adequate technical parameters for good image quality.
  3. To describe the normal zonal anatomy of the prostate and surrounding pelvic organs on T1WI, T2WI, DWI and DCE.
  4. To classify prostate segments according to the PIRADS v2.1.
  5. To accelerate the learning curve on prostate MRI, following a step-by-step evaluation and structure reporting.
  6. To recognize the most common prostate cancer mimickers.
  7. To understand the role of imaging-guided biopsy.
  8. To identify normal and pathological imaging features in post-treated patients.
