COURSE PRESENTATION
In this two-day course, we present an update on selected themes of paediatric pulmonology, of interest to paediatricians and pneumologists involved in care of infants, children or adolescent with respiratory diseases. As this is a very prevalent group of pathologies in clinical practice (emergency department, hospital wards and ambulatory practice), with acute and chronic presentations, physicians need to be up to date, in theoretical basis and practical skills.

We designed this course for the hard working medical practitioner, fellow, resident or consultant, that wishes to maintain continuous medical education in the field of paediatric respiratory medicine.

The course provides theorical / practical lessons about fourteen selected themes, followed by simulation and practical demonstration of six often used clinical techniques in the area.
TARGET AUDIENCE
Paediatricians and paediatric residents dedicated to the care of critically ill children and working in paediatric emergency (Intensive Care and Emergency Service); Neonatologists; Anaesthesiologists; Paediatric Surgeons, Paediatric Cardiologists , Pulmonologists and Pulmonology residents
LEARNING OBJECTIVES >> KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS TO DEVELOP
  1. Acknowledge normal anatomy, development and function of respiratory system in paediatric patients of different ages, and differences from adults.
  2. Understand the way these are modified by growing, development, physical and physiological maturation, as well as environment factors
  3. Diagnose respiratory diseases in children and adolescents.
  4. Request and interpret diagnostic tests (respiratory function tests, bronchoscopy, and image). Understand indications, advantages and limitation of each test.
  5. Recommend and prescribe appropriate therapies of acute or chronic respiratory diseases, cautiously using drugs, oxygen and ventilator support.
  6. Practice, in simulators or practical demonstrations, some important techniques in respiratory medicine; inhaler devices, heated
